 | At the speed of right
| | Aftermarket Business | For those of you who think it's your God-given right to drive what you want, when you want, where you want and as fast as you want, this would be the time to get your thesaurus out to find every name in the book that you want to call me. At the risk of being called a threat to the American way of life, I am asking this industry to actively support a review of the most efficient speed limit. And if the outcome of such a review is to roll back the speed limit to 55 mph, then so be it. |

| | Aftermarket Business | Political action is analogous to war. In a political action battle, you marshal your troops and your allies into coalition forces, deploy weapons and special forces into a campaign that includes skirmishes and battles in which there will ultimately be winners and losers, and the outcome of the conflict can be economic domination or ideological advancement. Although the bulk of proposed legislation does not rise to this level of effort, when faced with a frontal assault by your opponents — you better be prepared to go to war.

| | Trademark battle stuck in park
| | Aftermarket Business | The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) appears nervous about the growing number of design patents it is awarding to auto manufacturers. Many of the patents cover collision parts, but the USPTO also grants design patents for items such as exterior mirrors and wheel covers, among other items sold in every auto aftermarket retail store in the U.S. The unease surfacing in the PTO was reflected during two meetings earlier this year when the floor was opened to discuss its policies on automotive design patents. |
